Press Release
James Schoenster will seek election to the Fluvanna County Board of Supervisors this November.
He has filed to run as an Independent in the Palmyra District currently represented by retiring Supervisor Patricia Eager.
On his website and Facebook page, James has stated that the key to unlocking Fluvanna’s potential is improving infrastructure. “This infrastructure should be prioritized over more homes, as housing developments are already under construction and increasing the strain on services.”
These services, which he considers a primary function of county government, include: “safe roads, accessible utilities, great schools, and emergency services.” Another key motivation for James is to “shift the tax burden off the residents of Fluvanna – by growing commercial tax revenue.” Acknowledging that this vision of growth can’t be to the detriment of protecting Fluvanna’s rural character is also a focal point of the Schoenster campaign. “We have small areas designated for development, and we need this infrastructure to bring in the right businesses, and develop those areas in the right way. In our county, we are surrounded by nature, and I want to keep it that way. I think the answer is a healthy balance of both.”
His professional experience is in the financial industry, and he currently advises companies on setting up and maintaining qualified retirement plans such as the 401(k).
He has been actively building up his community since spearheading a financial literacy project through the Fluvanna Leadership Development Program, putting on events at Lake Monticello for other young families such as pictures with the Easter Bunny this past Saturday, or playing music at the Fluvanna Farmers Market.
