The Fluco track and field squad traveled to Albemarle County High School on May 10 to compete in the Jefferson District meet. The Fluco boys finished third in the district, while the girls came in fifth. Coach Melanie Kennedy’s boys and girls teams had a large number of All-District performers. Additionally, the coach reports that two special performances were turned in. Junior Sophie Farley finished second in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:22.29, which is now the Fluvanna County High School record time for the metric half mile. On the boys side, Ryder Petrylak ran the metric mile in a time of 4:34.72 to qualify for the state meet. He is also a junior.
At the district meet any athlete who finishes in the top six in their event makes All-District. For the Fluco boys, Isaac Lewis was an impressive all-purpose performer. He turned in All-District performances in the 100-meter dash, the 300-meter high hurdles, the 200-meter dash and the long jump, an event in which he finished third. Lewis’ speed made him a dangerous kick returner on the Fluco football team this past season. Elias Morris had two All-District finishes. He was second in the 300-meter hurdles and third in the 110-meter hurdles. Lewis is a senior and Morris is a junior. Petrylak also had two All-District finishes. In addition to the 1600 , he was also All-District in the 3200 run.
Other All-District finishers for the boys were: Zach Butler in the 3200 run, Richard Price in the 200-meter dash, Kameren Green in the 200-meter dash, Logan Wade in the discus and Kenyon Smith in the triple jump.
For the Fluco girls, Farley was All-District in the 1600 meter in addition to the 800-meter. Also making All-District in two events was Alexis Perry, in the high jump and the 100-meter hurdles. Perry is also a junior. Other All-District performers were: Sydney Chipperfield in the 400-meter, Ruby Frazier in the 3200 run, Neveah Ferguson in the long jump, Breeanna Miller in the shot put, and Zaniah Walker and Nakierra Shelton, both in the discus. The 4X400 relay team also turned in an All-District performance. The team consisted of Chipperfield, Gina Madison, Kaiya Wrigley and Anna Amato.
The Region meet is scheduled for May 23 at Harrisonburg High School. It will be followed on June 2 by the state meet at Liberty University.
