Whitten named new county attorney

Press Release

The Fluvanna County Board of Supervisors has chosen Daniel N. Whitten as Fluvanna’s new county attorney. The Board chose Whitten to fill the vacancy created by retiring County Attorney Fred Payne, who was appointed in 1985. Whitten becomes the first in-house county attorney to serve Fluvanna. “I’m pleased to welcome Dan Whitten to our county and to our administration team,” said Supervisor Mozell Booker. “As chair of the Board of Supervisors and the longest-serving member of our current board, it is a pleasure to be able to serve with our first in-house attorney. At the same time, our long time County Attorney Fred Payne will be missed and always remembered.”

A native of Albemarle County, Whitten is a graduate of the University of Virginia and the College of William & Mary’s Marshall-Wythe School of Law. He has been involved in public service since 2009, previously serving as the County Attorney in Prince George and Warren counties. Whitten holds a professional membership in the Local Government Attorneys of Virginia (LGA) and currently serves on the LGA Conference Policy Committee and previously served on the Outreach Committee and Ethics Committee.

“I look forward to representing the Fluvanna County Board of Supervisors and serving the citizens of Fluvanna County,” said Whitten who began his tenure with the county June 5. Whitten is married and has three children. His hobbies include mountain biking, hiking and camping. He has been a volunteer youth coach in both soccer and mountain biking.
