Burning Bush Christian Church recently held a fundraiser, helping an estimated 100 students with school supplies, a free haircut, or a cookout. This was the first church-sponsored event to help kids in the community in need.
“We hope to be able to continue this annually for our community and our students,” said Kristel Harris, a church member.
Each school system provides a school supply list of items including scissors, composition notebooks, paper, pencil boxes, and more, for one student.
“If a family has multiple children in school, this can be a hardship along with the cost of new clothes, new shoes, and any other household costs that parents have to deal with,” said Harris. “The church wanted to alleviate some of the pressures of back-to-school costs by providing some supplies and also with haircuts which can be an added expense.”
The church thanked all of those who contributed to the event from the donation of school supplies, backpacks, and to the businesses who provided their services. The Fluvanna community as well as the Fluvanna County Sherrif’s Office, Fluvanna County Fire Department, Fluvanna Women in Business, and the Fluvanna County Chamber of Commerce, were also involved in making the event a success.
