David E. (Dave) Blain of Micanopy, FL passed away August 21, 2023. He was born September 17, 1943, in Richmond, VA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Mary Guess, and brother, Randolph (Ranny) Blain, and stepson, Shannon Jones. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Kathryn; his daughters, Tara and her husband Chad of Dayton, OH and their children; Bryce and Shep; Brittany and her husband John of Rocky Mount, VA and their children; Andy, Alex, and Mary Kathryn; and granddaughters Cassidy, Katelyn, Ashley, and Haley. Also surviving are his sister, Judy and her husband Garnett of Fluvanna, VA; and niece Kim and her husband John, and nephew Dave and his wife Bonnie.
Dave graduated from Manchester High School, in Chesterfield County, VA. He served in the National Guard before working as a product salesman for Proctor and Gamble. Dave earned his private pilot’s license through Richmond Aviation. He then worked at Holliday Aero before he was hired as an Airplane Parts Manager, and later General Manager, with Piedmont Airlines. In Richmond he met his wife, Kathy. Dave’s career with Piedmont Aviation took him and family to Roanoke and Norfolk VA, and Monroe, NC. As Airport Manager for the city of Lynchburg, he oversaw the opening of Lynchburg Regional Airport.
Following that time, the Blains’ relocated to Fluvanna County, VA. Dave enjoyed farm life and work at Thomasville Furniture and Ukrop’s Grocery. After retiring, Dave and his bride moved their farm south to central Florida. Dave loved discussing all things history, family, and aviation. Family was of the greatest importance to Dave. He was always generous with his time and resources. Dave’s legacy includes his love for the Lord, a kind smile, a quick wit, and his dedication to his wife and family.
