Free concert coming to Pleasant Grove

Fluvanna is slowly becoming a mecca for the arts with the addition of film and visual arts at Carysbrook Performing Arts Center, the growth of Sweet Art Emporium and the increase of visibility throughout the county of the Fluvanna Art Association members. Now, the Fluvanna County Parks and Recreation is trying out an idea to see if will fly. On Sept. 9, from 6-8 p.m., Groovin’ at The Grove will be held as a free concert at Pleasant Grove Park. Aaron Spitzer, director of FCPR, said the county and several community groups had wanted to put on a concert at Pleasant Grove, but FCPR had been waiting to get the new stage built in front of the Pleasant Grove house before holding a concert.   “This allows for shade for participants as well as an amphitheater for the music to travel,” said Spitzer who added a special thanks to Zachary Harris of Troop 1154 and the rest of the troop for building the stage this past summer. Route 6 Band will be performing and playing a variety of rock cover songs. There will be three food vendors available including D’Mary’s, Local Eats, and Moe Betta Italian. The idea was based on Charlottesville’s Fridays After Five. “We are very excited to be able to offer a free concert to citizens of Fluvanna County and area counties,” said Spitzer. “We hope this is a successful event that will draw visitors to our county, so we can continue to have similar events at Pleasant Grove Park next summer, possibly making this a monthly concert series.”
