Ron Switzer, age 82, of Palmyra, VA was called from this life on September 7, 2023. He was a beloved husband to Nancy (Adams) Switzer for 54 years. Born in Mifflintown, PA to the late Jane (Switzer) Street and stepfather Hartley Street.
Ron served in the Navy for 21 years, retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer. He earned several recognitions while in the Navy and received his college degree from Saint Leo University. His second career, of 21 years, was with State Farm Insurance in Charlottesville, VA. In retirement Ron generously volunteered with area ministries serving those in need.
He was known professionally for his attention to detail and personally for his sense of humor, and generous spirit. Ron had many passions in his life such as: sports, poetry, traveling, music, singing, technology and spending time with friends, but none more important than his family and Jesus Christ.
In addition to his wife Nancy, Ron is survived by his children, daughter Kimberly Pomykacz (Joe Pomykacz) of Matthews, NC, daughter Rhonda Switzer of Palmyra, VA, son Andrew Switzer (Bonnie Switzer) of New Park, PA and daughter Kari Turks of Grand Forks, ND. He is also survived by three brothers and three sisters. Ron was the cherished “Papa” to his 6 grandchildren (Owen, Eli, Luke, Isaiah, Silas, Lydia) as well as several other children of close family friends who he “adopted” as his own.
A special thanks goes to Hospice of Piedmont and Westminster Canterbury of the Blue Ridge. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of the Piedmont or to Effort Baptist Church.
A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held on Saturday, September 16th at 2:00 PM at Effort Baptist Church in Palmyra, VA and will be led by Pastor Boschen and Pastor Bird.
