Kents Store man charged with killing aunt

Deputies from the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office were called today (Oct. 6) at 6:15 a.m. to a disturbance at a residence in the 100 block of Ferncliff Farms Lane in the Kents Store area of Fluvanna County.
Upon their arrival, they were led into the residence by witnesses where they located a female suffering
from injuries to her head. CPR was being performed by witnesses and care continued
until Fluvanna County Rescue arrived and began to provide care.
Despite their combined efforts, Carolyn Faith Grooms, 57,, was pronounced
dead at the scene at approximately 7:10 a.m. Deputies and Investigators are still on
scene documenting, processing and collecting evidence. Grooms’ body will
be transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Richmond for an autopsy.
Quentin Lamar Burgess, 24, has been arrested and is currently in custody for
homicide. Witnesses reported to investigators that he is the nephew of the victim and
resident in the same home. He has been charged with second degree murder, held without bond, and transported to the Central Virginia Regional Jail in Orange County.
At this time, the nature or cause of the initial disturbance is still unknown and
under investigation. More information will be released as it becomes available. The
Sheriff and his staff wish to extend their condolences to the family of Ms. Grooms during
