The Lake Monticello and Fluvanna County fire departments will be hosting a graduation ceremony June 8 at 3 p.m. for the firefighters who recently completed the Virginia Department of Fire Programs, Essentials of Firemanship, Firefighter 1 course of study which is a college level course.
A total of 18 firefighters, from all four Fluvanna County fire companies, spent 17 weeks, and 214 hours attending 29 classroom lectures, and weekend 8-hour sessions, to receive hands-on instruction performing all the different firefighting skills expected of a certified firefighter. This class were funded by Fluvanna County.
The graduates will be honored and receive certificates. There will be special awards bestowed upon deserving students. There will be approximately 125 people attending along with the Fluvanna County Board of Supervisors, county administration members and other dignitaries.
