Lake Monticello Fire & Rescue volunteers had to cut, pry and disassemble parts of a vehicle involved in an accident on South Boston Road Wednesday (July 31) in order to free and rescue the male driver, Fire Chief Richard Constantino said. The Palmyra fire company assisted in the operation.
The rescue crews used various methods, including hydraulic extraction tools, to free the driver in what Constantino called a “very intricate and challenging rescue.” During the rescue operation, a Lake Monticello firefighter gained access to the victim through a removed passenger door and began stabilizing and basic life-saving measures for the trapped victim.
After the 30-minute rescue operation, the victim was treated by the rescue squad and transported to the University of Virginia hospital with minor injuries.
The incident, near the solar farm and CVEC substation, is being investigated by the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office.
