Two Lake Monticello firefighters were treated and released due to heat and exhaustion while battling a large fire on Haversack Road Monday afternoon (Aug. 26). No residents were injured but the residence became inhabitable, said Lake Monticello Fire Department Chief Richard Constantino.
The Haversack Road area was closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic by the Lake Monticello Police Department.
The fire damaged several rooms and attic spaces in the building, and windows were broken to vent the intense interior heat and fumes so firemen could fight the blaze. Crews from the Palmyra, Fork Union and Kents Store fire departments assisted.
The origin and cause of the fire is under investigation by investigators from the Lake Monticello Fire Department and the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office, but no final cause has been confirmed.
The homeowners will stay with family members temporarily.
