Press Release
VHSL recently awarded FCHS first place in all three of its school publications for the 2023-2024 school year. This achievement marks a historic moment for the Flucos, as it’s the first time the school has won first place in every category in a single year.
The winning publications include:
2024 “Phases” Fluvannual Yearbook – 1st Place – Editors: Katie Bond and Savannah Morris;
2024 Fluco Beat Online News – 1st Place – Editors: Kessler Potter ’24, Rebecca Martin, and Gabi Etchison ’24;
2024 “Undefined” Literary Magazine – 1st Place – Editors: Kessler Potter ’24, Rachael Broxon, and Annika Potter.
Nearly 50 students from Elizabeth Pellicane’s journalism classes and the Literary Magazine Club worked on these publications throughout the 2024 school year. Students are now in the process of creating the 2025 publications.
Bond and junior Cecily McMillian are the editors of the 2025 Fluvannual, which has a theme of “Timeline” and which can be pre-ordered at jostensyearbooks.com. The book, which will cover all 180 days of the 2025 school year, will be published next summer and be available in July of 2025.
The 2025 Fluco Beat student news site publishes news, sports, and entertainment articles regularly during the school week under the direction of Editors Alli Rhoades, Ethan Ritchey, and Rebecca Martin. You can read it at theflucobeat.com.
The 2024 edition of the “Undefined” magazine includes a range of student submissions, featuring artwork, poetry, and writing from FCHS students. You can read a pdf of the magazine by going to theflucobeat.com and scrolling to the Fine Arts Corner.
Rachael Broxon, who is joining Annika Potter as the 2025 “Undefined” editors, says “I feel very honored to be able to help make the Lit Mag, and even more so to achieve a first place award my first year on the team. The cumulative effort from all the artists in the school and from the team itself truly make the Lit Mag special. Each piece was specifically selected by myself and the Lit Mag team to make the best magazine possible, and I’m so glad that all of our efforts paid off.”
The magazine will be published in May of 2025.
