State police investigating fatal officer involved shooting

Virginia State Police press release

The Virginia State Police Appomattox Field Office, at the request of the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office, is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred Friday (Oct. 11) in the 400 block of Gravel Hill Road.

Deputies were initially called to the residence for an armed domestic disturbance.

During the incident, the suspect was found to be hiding inside a wall in the structure.  When deputies attempted to remove the suspect, the suspect fired at the deputies, and they returned fire.  The suspect, Kenneth Wayne Foster, Jr. , 37, was later pronounced deceased, and a firearm was located near by.

The Fluvanna Sheriff’s Office has placed the deputies involved in the incident on administrative leave with pay.

Virginia State Police will turn over the findings, once completed, to the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office for final review and adjudication.
