Fluvanna County cross country runners Anna Amato, Ruby Frazier and Jack Jefferies excelled at the Virginia High School League’s Class 3 State Cross Country meet held Saturday (Nov. 16) in Blacksburg. Frazier, a junior, ran the girls 5000 meter race in 18.56.3 to place eighth out of 103 runners. Amato, a senior, finished 12th with a 19.11.7 time. They were the only girls running for Fluvanna.
In the boys race, Jack Jefferies was the only competitor for Fluvanna, running the 5000 meter course in 17.12.6 to finish 32nd out of 103 runners. Fluvanna cross country coach Melanie Kennedy said Jefferies was “the first male that we’ve taken to the state meet since 2016”
“These 3 athletes are the epitome of hard work, class, and dedication,” Kennedy said. “They are great teammates and represent Fluvanna County cross country program with grace and confidence. We are incredibly proud of them on the course and off. They are great athletes but even better people.”
Kennedy added that “all three of these athletes made it to states because they were in the top five after the teams were taken out at the regional meet. All three athletes earned All Region honors because they placed in the top 15 overall in their respective races.”
