Fork Union Military Academy honors veterans with special ceremony

Press Release

The Fork Union Military Academy held its annual Veterans Day Ceremony on Monday (Nov. 11), bringing together cadets, staff, alumni, and community members to honor the service and sacrifice of America’s veterans. Held at the Academy’s Veterans Memorial, the ceremony was marked by a profound sense of gratitude and respect for those who have served in the United States Armed Forces.

The Academy was privileged to welcome back alumnus SSG USA (Ret.) Dustin Denby, Class of 2002, as the guest speaker. A decorated veteran, Denby shared his journey and spoke to the values of courage, loyalty, and resilience that define military service.

Adding to the day’s significance was a motorcycle procession led by members of the Spotsylvania Masonic Lodge 26 and the Naphtali Widow Sons Masonic Motorcycle Association. A group of 20 to 24 riders arrived on campus to join the Academy in honoring veterans. After the ceremony, representatives from these groups presented a generous donation to Capt. Mark Black, President of Fork Union Military Academy. Their contribution underscores the community’s commitment to supporting the Academy’s mission of shaping young men into leaders of character.

The check presentation and the heartfelt speeches were just a few highlights of a day dedicated to honoring the legacy of those who serve. The event provided cadets with a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by veterans, as well as the importance of respect and responsibility in their own lives.

Fork Union Military Academy is proud to continue its tradition of honoring veterans and instilling in its cadets a lasting appreciation for their service. As the event concluded, the Academy’s community departed with a renewed sense of commitment to preserving the values that veterans like Denby exemplify.
