wear blue: run to remember, a national nonprofit honoring the service and sacrifice of the American military, has announced its first partnership with the Allianz Partners Richmond Marathon. Veterans, military members, their families, and runners were warmly invited to join in a moment of reflection to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
The Allianz Partners Richmond Marathon, organized by Sports Backers, featured a Circle of Remembrance led by wear blue’s Chief Operating Officer Lee Yoneyama. During this tribute, participants spoke the names of the fallen, carrying their memory with every step in the marathon, half marathon, and 8k.
The Circle of Remembrance took place on Saturday, Nov. 16, just before runners crossed the starting lines. wear blue: run to remember welcomed all to this meaningful event.
“The Allianz Partners Richmond Marathon takes place around Veterans Day, so we are always seeking meaningful ways to honor the brave men and women who have served our country,” said Megan Schultz, race director of the Allianz Partners Richmond Marathon. “The wear blue: run to remember Circle of Remembrance provided a poignant opportunity to pay tribute to our fallen service members and we were humbled and excited to have wear blue join us on race day.”
Held just after Veterans Day, this race carried deep significance for wear blue as it creates a meaningful community and opportunities for military service members, their families, veterans and supporters to move, remember, and honor fostering reflection and mental well-being.
“We were honored to lead a Circle of Remembrance at the Allianz Partners Richmond Marathon with Sports Backers,” said Yoneyama, a command sergeant major, US Army (Retired). “Thanks to their partnership, the military community and civilian supporters stood side by side and paid tribute to our fallen heroes and ensured their memory lives on.”
