Fluco Swim and Dive Team makes a splash at Regionals

Press release

The Fluvanna Swim Team had an amazing 4th place overall win on Saturday (Feb. 15) at the Regional meet which hosted 18 schools. The girls team finished in 3rd place with the boys coming in 6th place!

Alex Fuller showed off her skills by earning the title of Region 3C Champion in both of her individual events – the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke. Levi Rensch completed his 500 freestyle event earning him a spectacular 3rd place win while Abby Caruso sealed her state spot with a 5th place finish in the 50-freestyle.  The girls 200-medley relay, consisting of Fuller, Sophie Pace, Josie and Abby Caruso, finished in 3rd place earning them a spot at States. The nail biting event of the day was the girls 400 freestyle relay.  Madison Clark, Pace, A. Caruso and Fuller really stepped it up to clinch this win!  The girls were holding a steady 3rd place against Western and Monticello high schools until the last 100 yards of the relay.  The anchor leg of the relay jumped in and thrust the Flucos to a 2nd place win!

Alex Fuller, Abby Caruso and Levi Rensch moved on to States in Christiansburg that was held Feb. 21 with individual events and all three girls relays will be showcased.

The Regional Dive meet was quite impressive and all four divers advanced to States on Feb. 20. Cash Johnson is our Region 3C champion, Tony Myrsten finished in 3rd place and James Johnson in 4th.  Kayleigh Herring, our only female diver, is the Regional runner-up.

Coach Mike DiFazio summed it up stating, “I’m incredibly proud of the Fluco Swim and Dive team and the amazing team spirit we showed at the Regional championship meets.  The support they gave each other was outstanding and it was reflected in our performances.  For such a small team, our success speaks volumes about the athletes’ hard work and dedication throughout the season.”
