Virginia State Police is investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash involving a Fluvanna County emergency vehicle that occurred March 19 at 7:51 a.m. at the intersection of Rt. 15 (James Madison Highway) and Rt. 6 (East River Road) in Fluvanna County.
A 2022 Ford F-550 Fluvanna County emergency vehicle was heading northbound on Rt. 15 when it was unable to avoid a 1998 Ford F-150 that had pulled into the intersection from Rt. 6. There is a stop sign on Rt. 6 and the emergency vehicle did have its lights and siren activated. The emergency vehicle struck the F-150 on the driver’s side.
The driver of the F-150, Luis J. Sanchez, 61, of Henrico, died at the scene. Sanchez was wearing a seatbelt. A passenger in the vehicle, Marco H. Guerrero, 42, suffered serious injuries and was taken to an area hospital. Both were wearing seatbelts.
The driver of the emergency vehicle, Virginia R. Davis, 21, of Waynesboro, suffered serious injuries. A passenger, Hunter C. Aimes, 32, suffered minor injuries. Both were wearing seatbelts and both were transported to area hospitals.
The crash remains under investigation.
