Carol Blankenbeckler Eddy

Carol Blankenbeckler Eddy, 77, of Palmyra, Virginia passed away on May 28, 2025, at Albemarle Health and Rehab with her husband by her side.

Carol was an Independence Day baby, born on July 4, 1947, in Chilhowie, Virginia to the late Glen Franklin Blankenbeckler and Carola Nancy Blankenbeckler (nee Sheppard).

In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her brother, Dennis, her in-laws George and Cornelia Eddy, and her best friend during her teaching career, Charlotte Smoot.

Carol graduated from Chilhowie High School as salutatorian in 1965.  She then attended Radford University earning a bachelor’s degree in education in 1969.  She went on to complete her master’s degree from Bowie State University while working as a teacher in Prince William Country, Virginia.

Carol worked at Fred Lynn Middle School in Woodbridge, Virginia for her entire educational career. She taught mathematics and later transitioned into administration.  Carol retired due to Muscular Dystrophy in 1992.

Carol and her mother were champion quilters. Together they won many ribbons and taught quilting classes as members of the Annapolis Quilt Guild. She was also an avid woodworker with a complete woodworking shop. But it was with her jewelry made from silverware that she made her mark.  Eventually, her spoon rings, bracelets, angel pins and angel ornaments, icicles, and necklaces would be sold in various shops around the community.

Carol was an active member of Cunningham United Methodist Church. She was the president of the United Methodist Women at Cunningham for several years, championing the causes of the women.

Carol leaves behind David Eddy, her husband of twenty-four years, her son Greg Blankenbeckler and his spouse Jennifer, her grandchildren Henry Jordan Emch and their spouse Jackson, Jesse Blankenbeckler and his spouse Cora, and Daniel Blankenbeckler.  She is also survived by her great grandchildren Joshua and Jonah Blankenbeckler, and Cillian, Finley, and Ivey Sloane Blankenbeckler.  She is also survived by her niece Emily Constantine and Emily’s two children Miles and Morgan Constantine.

To know Carol was to have her for a friend. Her kind nature and her contagious smile could disarm anyone.  Carol and David were in their fifties when they found each other, but their constant love made their time together extraordinary.

There will be a Celebration of Carol’s Life at 11:00 on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Cunningham United Methodist Church, 3389 Thomas Jefferson Parkway, Palmyra, Virginia 22963 with Rev. Amy Grant and Rev. Tom Frost presiding. It will be followed by a luncheon in the Gathering Place adjacent to the sanctuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Carol’s honor to Cunningham United Methodist Church.
