Dedication held for the 29th Fluvanna Habitat home

Press Release

The newest Habitat home- its 29th built in Fluvanna – was officially dedicated on Sunday, June 29.  The ceremony took place at the Lake Monticello Volunteer Fire and Rescue Station down the street from the home at Houchens Place community off South Boston Road. The event was well attended by family, community leaders and Fluvanna Habitat volunteers. Pastor Matt Boschen of Effort Baptist Church graciously blessed the new home and the Hunt family, who own the home.

Fluvanna Habitat for Humanity is building two homes this year in the Houchens Place community. When complete, the community will hold 26 homes and a recreational area. Fluvanna Habitat uses dedicated volunteers and local contractors to build three-bedroom, two-bath energy efficient and environmentally responsible homes. This saves homeowners a considerable amount by reducing the actual cost of the home as well as reducing monthly energy costs.

Fluvanna Habitat for Humanity works with Fluvanna families who need an affordable home and who are willing to work with us as partners to become financially able homebuyers. Families must spend at least 100 hours in “sweat equity” participating in financial literacy and homeownership classes and helping to build homes.

The building and dedication of this home could not have been possible without our volunteers and community partners. We express our sincere gratitude and appreciation to the following dedication donors:

Calvary Chapel Fluvanna; Cunningham United Methodist Church; D+J Photography; Effort Baptist Church; Jonnie Oliver -Volunteer/Jefferson Pharmacy; Lake Monticello Piecemakers; Mission Crafters of South Plains Presbyterian Church, Keswick; Monticello Area Community Action Agency (MACAA); Rusty Nailz – Fluvanna Habitat Volunteer Team.

Fluvanna Habitat, an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, is a non-profit, volunteer Christian ministry that works in partnership with the community to provide safe, affordable homeownership opportunities to qualified families in need in Fluvanna County.  The organization brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope.
