League of Women Voters of the Charlottesville area seeks new members

Press Release

The League of Women Voters (of the Charlottesville Area (LWV-CVA) is inviting community members of all backgrounds , aged 16 or older, to join their efforts to strengthen civic participation. The League will host an outreach event “We Are the League” at the JMRL Charlottesville’s Central Library on Sunday, Sept. 21, from 2-4 p.m. where prospective members can learn more about the organization’s mission and activities.

The LWV-CVA is a nonpartisan but political organization that focuses on issues, not parties or candidates. Its work centers on providing voters access to voter registration and giving them the tools and information they need to make informed decisions and to promote fair, accessible, and transparent elections. LWV-CVA also advocates at local and state levels of government on issues that promote the general welfare for all.

LWV-CVA services the counties of Fluvanna, Albemarle, Nelson, Greene, and Louisa as well as the city of Charlottesville.

In the past LWV-CVA have held forums and debates for candidates running for office. This year we are trying something different. LWV-CVA is introducing Listening Tables, a new initiative designed to bring candidates and local residents together for open, respectful conversations about the issues that matter most. These events give voters the opportunity to hear directly from candidates, ask questions, and exchange ideas, helping the community better understand who and what they’re voting for. .Listening Tables are already being arranged for all our contested races.

Whether you’re a seasoned civic participant or just beginning to explore community engagement, the League of Women Voters offers meaningful opportunities to make a difference.

For more information, visit the League at the Charlottesville’s Central Library on Sept. 21 or explore their work online at lwv-cva.org.
