A box truck struck a sheriff’s deputy vehicle Thursday morning (Nov. 8) at 5:21 a.m. on Route 15 south of its intersection with Route 616 (Union Mills Road), according to a Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) press release.

The crash caused Route 15 to be shut down for several hours. Fluvanna County Public Schools operated on a two-hour delay due to the road closure.

A FCSO SUV was on routine patrol traveling south on Route 15 (James Madison Highway) when a box truck traveling north crossed the double yellow line and struck the SUV, according to the release.

The drivers of both vehicles suffered minor injuries. The Virginia State Police investigated the crash and charged the driver of the box truck with reckless driving, according to the release.

Route 15 is now open to traffic.
