Feeding Fluvanna thanks community for generous support

Giving to others does not just happen at a particular time of year. The members of the planning team and all the volunteers want to thank the Fluvanna community for their generous support at the Feeding Fluvanna Community Day held Sept. 8.
Representatives of many of the congregations in Fluvanna County met earlier this year at Grace and Glory Lutheran Church and decided not only to hold another event to collect food and cash donations, but also to try to double the amount raised in 2017. It takes a lot of people working together to make the day a success, and most importantly, the participation and support of community members and business owners.

On Saturday, Dec. 1 a contingent of the Feeding Fluvanna volunteers gathered at the Central Elementary School Happy Face event to present a check for $4,453.71 to Rev. Warren Tillman, president of Fluvanna Christian Social Services.

The community’s support was overwhelming. Thanks to you we did not double the previous year, but exceeded our goal for the amount of money collected – more than 3,000 pounds of food and over $4,400.

The planning group met monthly at first and eventually weekly just before the Sept. 8 date. They spent countless hours of organizing events, lining up vendors, working on ways to improve shortfalls from the previous year and adding additional events. Old favorites such as the dunk tank, face painting, raffle items, and various vendors were brought back, but this year various musicians from the area churches performed during the day, a balloon clown created items for children, and a yard sale was added. The date for next year was set for Sept. 7.

If you want to be part of the event as a volunteer, congregation or vendor, send an email to FeedingFluvanna@graceandglory.org or visit the webpage at www.graceandglory.church/feeding-fluvanna.
