The fall semester brought accolades for three Fluvanna County High School TV production students when they scored third place in the Virginia School Board Association’s Student Video Contest.
Seniors Katie Morris, Kevin Burruss, and Madison Kennedy brought home their award from the board’s annual convention Nov. 14.

The 30-second film, Why Teachers are Important, was shot featuring students at Central Elementary.
“Katie and I were partners, and Kevin did the voiceover,” said Kennedy. She shared that winning was “surprising,” and that she would probably participate in another video contest if the opportunity arose.
TV production teacher David Small was proud to have students win for the first time in this annual competition. “Katie, Kevin, and Madison did an awesome job,” he said. “I am a strong advocate of doing quality work. If an award comes along, great. But the thrust of what we do is not geared to awards.”
Kennedy added that she most enjoyed going to Central and shooting the video. “The hardest part was the voiceover,” she said.
The Virginia School Board Association is a nonpartisan organization of Virginia school boards focused on promoting excellence in public education through advocacy, training and services. This was its seventh annual video competition.
