Seven Fluvanna County High athletes signed Wednesday (April 17) with seven different colleges or universities in Virginia to compete in their sports at the next level. All seven signed with Division III schools.
Colby Martin will be a Wasp at Emory and Henry, located in Emory, way down Route 81 almost to the North Carolina line. He will compete in track and football. As a Fluco he was an outstanding defensive back in football and competed in a host of events in track.
Kent Snoddy will take his lacrosse stick to Randolph College in Lynchburg where he will be a Wildcat. Snoddy has been a Fluco standout for several years.
Softball players Catera Marsh and Gracie Walton will be moving on to Bridgewater University and Mary Washington University, respectively. Interestingly, they will both be Eagles. These young women will be missed by the Fluco softball team.
Joey VanDyke was an outstanding defensive end and tight end for the Fluco football team. He will play football at the University of Virginia’s College at Wise. Not surprisingly, he will be a Cavalier.
Brianna Parker will be a Fighting Squirrel at Mary Baldwin University in Staunton. She has been a top flight track athlete at Fluvanna County High.
Ryan Grooms has had a very successful career as an infielder for the Fluco baseball team and he will continue on the diamond at Virginia Wesleyan in Norfolk.
Four of the above schools – Emory and Henry, Randolph College, Bridgewater College and Virginia Wesleyan – compete against each other in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The College at Wise competes in the Mountain East Conference against mostly West Virginia opponents. Mary Washington competes in the Capital Athletic Conference, while Fighting Squirrels of Mary Baldwin compete in the South Athletic Conference.
