Fluco Athletic director Scott Morris has circulated an update from the Virginia High School League (VHSL) regarding the fall sports season. The VHSL is the arbiter of all high school sport activities in Virginia. Its executive committee met in special session on July 15 to discuss the upcoming fall sports season. The executive committee voted unanimously to meet again on July 27 to vote on three recommended models for the fall.
The three models are as follows.
Model 1: Leave all sports in their current season. Low and moderate contact risk sports that would be allowed to play are golf and cross country. High risk sports that would not be allowed to play are field hockey, football, volleyball and cheer. Fall activities that would be allowed – only theatre.
Model 2: Switch fall and spring seasons. Low and moderate contact sports that would be
allowed to play in the fall would be track and field, tennis, soccer, baseball and softball. High risk sports that would not be played are boys’ and girls’ lacrosse. Spring activities that would be allowed are theatre, forensics/debate and film festival.
Model 3: Delay all VHSL sports and adopt the Condensed Interscholastic plan. Leave all sports where they are currently aligned, but have them compete on the following timetable. Season 3 (Winter) Dec. 14 – Feb. 20; Season 2 (Fall) Feb. 15 – May 1, and Season 3 (Spring) Apr. 12 – June 26.
