The Fluvanna Review won two Virginia Press Association awards in this year’s contest.
Amelia McConnell won a first place for her front-page design illustrating a Fluvanna County School Board budget meeting. The judge said, “A well-executed magazine approach made this entry stand out from the pack. Design of this quality can make something as mundane as a school budget seem exciting.”
Lynn Stayton-Eurell won second place in the category of multiple advertisers and themed pages.
“Amelia and Lynn are veteran designers who never seem to run out of juice to come up with new ways of illustrating both news and ads,” said Carlos Santos, publisher of the Fluvanna Review. “Lynn always delights our advertising clients with her eye-catching designs. Amelia has a knack – 52 times a year – for creating covers that are both beautiful and explanatory.”
The Fluvanna Review competes against 27 other newspapers in the non-daily group of papers with circulations of 4,000 to 8,999. The paper’s circulation is 6,000.
The VPA champions the common interests of Virginia newspapers and the ideals of a free press in a democratic society.
The Fluvanna Review is the winner of 93 Virginia Press Association awards for its advertising excellence and news coverage since 2010. The paper won awards in advertising design, news layout, cover illustration, infographics, photography, and multiple newswriting categories.
