The Fluvanna Review wins three VPA awards

The Fluvanna Review won three Virginia Press Association (VPA) awards for its news coverage and editorial design in 2022.

Editorial designer Amelia McConnell won second place in page design. She won third place in cover design. The contest judge remarked on McConnell’s work that, “it is clear this publication places emphasis on visual impact to take advantage of news page format size – illustrations and sports action.”

Correspondent Heather Michon won third place in government writing for her story on the Fluvanna County Board of Supervisors approving tax relief for workforce housing at Colonial Circle.

The Fluvanna Review has now won 96 VPA awards since 2010.

“I’m proud of our staff and of the newspaper,” said publisher Carlos Santos. “Amelia has a great eye for illustrating news and making our covers shine. Heather can take the most complex government stories and make them easily understandable and readable.”

“I think the VPA awards show how diligently we work to bring the very best newspaper we can to Fluvanna County residents every week,” Santos said.

The Fluvanna Review competed against 27 other non-dailies with circulations ranging between 3,500 and 6,999. The Fluvanna Review prints 6,300 copies each week and circulates in Fluvanna, parts of Charlottesville, Albemarle and Louisa counties.
