Fluvanna book giveaway gets double boost

Press Release

The new Dolly Parton Imagination Library (DPIL) program for Fluvanna recently received a $2,500 grant from the Lake Monticello Community Foundation, in addition to its first annual $500 donation from the Rose Deborah Altschull Endowment.

The grants help cover the cost of providing one free book per month to the nearly 500 county children that have already signed up. Organizers said DPIL Fluvanna needs to raise more than $6,000 per year to supply age-appropriate books to those already signed up, with more signing on every week.

Fluvanna County began establishing a DPIL affiliate in October 2022 and the first books were sent to registered children in Fluvanna County in June. Brandon Chiesa, one of the organizers, said 480 Fluvanna children, one third of all children age birth to five in the county, have joined. Foundation President Nancy Parsons said she’s pleased this grant, like some of the others the Foundation is giving, helps children from the whole county, not just the Lake.
