Joyce Chippindale, 93, of Palmyra, Virginia died on February 2, 2024, at Monroe Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Born September 8, 1930, in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of Alfred Anderson and Emilie Jungwirth. She was proceeded in death by her husband Henry Chippindale and her son Glenn Chippindale.
Joyce was passionate about life. She taught first grade, raised three sons, volunteered for countless causes, and fought tirelessly to protect and preserve nature. Joyce grew up in Jamaica Queens. She and her sister were competitive and ran faster than the boys at Forrest Hills High School. Joyce married Henry in 1950 and they raised their three sons in Mineola, NY and spent summers in Sag Harbor, NY. She picked up windsurfing in her 50’s and enjoyed the sport into her 80’s. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in the 1980’s. She retired with Henry to Palmyra, VA in 1997 and continued to summer in Sag Harbor, NY.
Joyce is missed and survived by her sons Bruce and Craig, her grandchildren Kjersti, Anders, Hunter and Eva, and her dog Scooby Doo. She is sorely missed by many others too. Memorial contributions should be made to a local animal shelter or environmental organizations such as the SPCA or Caring for Creatures.
