Fluvanna Happenings: Did you know?

Store openings/closings: The Troy Market, which I mentioned closed in the last Did You Know, has been replaced by a restaurant called Royal Cheesesteaks, specializing in authentic Philly cheesesteaks, New York-style pizza, and warm funnel cakes topped with powdered sugar.

Fun fact of the week: You might think the fastest animal in the world is the cheetah, but that title actually belongs to the peregrine falcon. During dives, this bird of prey can reach speeds of up to 242 mph– that’s even faster than a bullet train (200 mph)! But even during regular flight, this falcon is quite speedy, comfortable cruising around at speeds of about 56 mph.

Even more fun events are lined up for the spring in Palmyra! April will be packed full of fun spring happenings, new art classes, and outdoor activities.

Friday, April 5, at Sweet Arts Emporium, there will be a macrame plant hanger class. You can learn how to create your very own hanging plant holder out of beautifully intricate knotted rope and beads. You get to take your hanger home at the end! This class only has eight openings, so sign up online fast.

On April 7, from 1 to 4 p.m. there will be a free item swap at 479 Cunningham Road. This is an event where you are encouraged to bring items and clothing you no longer use or need and drop them off for free, and where you can take items you need in return. It’s a great way to give back to the community and feel like you and your neighbors are connected!

On April 12, at the Cunningham Creek Winery, there will be a fun night called Music Bingo! Sign up on the Cunningham Creek website to play–and then have a nice night of sipping while listening to music and trying to match it to your bingo cards!

Sweet Arts Emporium will be putting on an Arts Fest at the Stone Jail Street on April 13, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The rain date is April 14. Come celebrate the arts in the wonderful historic Palmyra! This event is close to the Rail Trail and many village shops, and will have food trucks for snacks, lunch, desserts, and more! Peruse the booths for a while, walk the trail, have lunch, take a walking tour of the historic village, and enjoy!

Do you like to laugh? Want a fun night out with your family? On April 13, at Carysbrook, Improv Comedy with Bent Theater is coming to the stage! At only $5 per ticket, this show will steal your hearts and leave your cheeks sore from smiling! Improv Comedy with Bent Theater has been making central Virginia laugh since 2004, and now they’re here on stage with their uproarious mix of styles that remind the viewer of Whose Line Is It Anyways, Second City, SNL, MadTV, and Comedy Central’s Premium Blend. Don’t miss it!

There are even more events coming up in the last few weeks of April, and even more beyond that! Check back in to Fluvanna Happenings: Did You Know for your inside look at the local happenings!
