If New Orleans boogie-woogie, upbeat rhythm and blues with a smooth and mellow sound is your music style, then the Chicken Head Blues Band is the band for you. They will perform on Oct. 12, at 7 p.m. at Carysbrook Performing Arts Center.

The band formed in 1999 when Durty Nelly’s Pub in Charlottesville needed a group to perform every Thursday evening. They are a small venue band that performs in various locations in central Virginia. Five band members play everything from soul and funk to blues and fusion and some reggae.

“Good music from everywhere,” said band member Aric van Brocklin. These close-knit band members have learned what it takes for a band to survive 25 years and stay connected during performances. Their cohesiveness comes from the energy and passion they share through music and performing.  Van Brocklin adds what keeps them going is, “All the God-given senses and a good sense of humor. Also, a love for music and one another.”
