Fluvanna County deputies were called to the scene of an apparent homicide in Fluvanna near Scottsville on Monday morning (Nov.18).

Investigators from the Virginia State Police’s Appomattox Field Office were alerted by Fluvanna authorities at around 11 a.m. that morning, VSP spokesperson Matthew Demlein said in a press release on Tuesday.

The Northern Virginia Daily News reported that a 16-year-old suspect was apprehended in Shenandoah County, about 120 miles north of Fluvanna, on Monday afternoon. Shenandoah County deputies assisted VSP in the arrest.

The teen has since been charged with first-degree murder, obstruction of justice, and eluding.

Because the investigation is ongoing and the suspect is a minor, officials have released few details of the crime. Demlein describes the victim as an adult male, adding that “the two individuals were known to each other, and there is not believed to be any further threat to the community.”
