Press Release
The Lake Monticello Piecemakers are closing out the year by donating many of its creations to benefit local community service organizations, including Lake Monticello Fire & Rescue, the Lake Monticello Beautification Corps and the Lake Monticello Community Foundation.
The quilters sold many of their creations again this year at the recent Sts. Peter & Paul Craft Bazaar, raising $1,328 which was donated to the fire department.
The Piecemakers also donated a quilt to the Beautification Corps to be raffled after the Holiday Home Tour Dec. 14, which is the Corps’ largest fundraiser. This year’s raffle quilt features a stunning peacock.
And the group is decorating a holiday tree for the Festival of Trees Dec. 7, a fundraiser for the Lake Monticello Community Foundation. Tickets to win each of the nearly two dozen trees are currently available. The Piecemakers tree includes handmade ornaments and garland, a stunning embroidered tree skirt, holiday placemats, and more, and the winner of that tree gets to keep the tree and all the valuable decorations.
“We love it that our work benefits these and other worthwhile community organizations,” said Jackie Bland, one of the organizers. “Everyone is always so appreciative of our products.”
The Piecemakers meet each Thursday at 1 p.m. at Ashlawn where they share their talent, skills, ideas, and learn from each other. They welcome quilters with all levels of expertise, and introduce the craft to new quilters.
Many of the Piecemakers’ quilts are often on display at Cunningham Creek Winery, with the current display having a holiday theme.
