Sharks swimmers shine despite loss to Frogs

The Lake Monticello Sharks faced off against the Farmington Country Club Frogs on Wednesday, June 17. The Frogs secured the win, despite a strong effort from the Sharks.

Swimmers Ava Powell, 10, Norbu Barnett, 11, and Sophie Pace, 18, swept their events.

Powell won the 100m individual medley in 1:42.00, the 50m freestyle in 37.31, and the 50m butterfly in 51.84. She also joined teammates Gabriella Barresi, 10, Katherine Geffken, 10, and Henley Harrington, 10, to win the 200m freestyle relay.

Barnett won the 100m individual medley in 1:17.97, the 50m freestyle in 31.37, and the 50m butterfly in 33.22. He also won the 200m freestyle relay with teammates Perry Provencher, 11, Bennett Allen, 12, and Brandon Kalinosky, 12.

Pace won the 100m individual medley in 1:25.37, the 50m freestyle in 31.59, and the 50m backstroke in 38.19. She also joined Ariella Miller, 14, Dorothy Dillon, 14, and Georgia Comer, 14, to win the 200m freestyle relay.

Sharks 8-and-under swimmers secured a number of wins, including Henley Belew’s wins in the 50m breaststroke in 28.03 and the 25m butterfly in 22.16; Kemper Heath’s win in the 25m freestyle in 27.31, a 3.58-second drop from his seed time; and Kingston Arencibia’s win in the 25m backstroke in 24.56, a 2.44-second improvement over his seed time.

The 9-10 boys 200m freestyle relay team of Henry Ward, 10, Brayden Arencibia, 10, Kaleo Heath, 10, and Apollo Mott, 9, won by an impressive 33.28 seconds for a first-place finish. Ward also won the 50m backstroke in 46.91, with a 3.08-second drop, while Arencibia won the 50m breaststroke in 48.68, a 2.96-second improvement. Ten-year-old Henley Harrington won the 50m breaststroke in 53.72 and dropped an impressive 7.65 seconds to win the 50m backstroke in 48.44.

Other 50m backstroke wins went to Perry Provencher, 11, in 42.64; Annelise Campbell, 13, in 38.70; and James Johnson, 17, in 34.82. In the 13-14 age group, Lily Dugan, 13, won the 50m freestyle in 33.50, and Brick Sumner, 14, won the 50m breaststroke in 43.22.

On Wednesday, June 24, the Sharks were scheduled to face the Key West Killer Whales.
