Kenneth Wayne Staton

Kenneth was an avid outdoorsman who loved farming, hunting, and fishing. He was a devoted father, grandfather and friend who always had a great sense of humor. He graduated from Fluvanna High School and worked for VDOT for over 40 years. He was a Legion member of the Charlottesville Moose Lodge #1028, a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and an Auxiliary member of VFW Post #827.

Survivors include his girlfriend, Kim Bunch, and three children; Deborah Staton Cowles and her husband Reuben Reynolds Cowles, III; Ann Staton Gardner and her husband Thomas Bernard Gardner; and  Nicholas Warren Littlehales-Staton.  Two grandchildren, Chelsea Marie Gardner and Taryn Elizabeth Cowles.  Five sisters, Mabel Keppler, Merle Jennings, Catherine Palmer, Carol Coleman and her husband Danny, and Janice White and her husband Leonard and one brother,  Dabney “Sonny” Staton and his wife Sandra. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.  And special friend, Leroy.

A funeral service was held at 1:00pm on Monday, August 27, 2012 at Hill and Wood Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Golladay officiating. Interment followed at Monticello Memory Gardens. His family received friends on Sunday evening, August 26, 2012 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at the funeral home.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Mark Prichard and the staff at The Martha Jefferson Hospital Phillips Cancer Center, and also to his neighbor, Marshall “Sonny” Tomlin for his kindness.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society for Lung Cancer Research, 1445 East Rio Road, Charlottesville, VA 22901.
