Republicans open headquarters

The event had little fan-fare but much enthusiasm for the candidates. Families, farmers, and business people, stopped by to chat, get some literature about the candidates, register to vote and pick up signs.

Rittenhouse spoke about the upcoming fund raiser at Camp Friendship to be held on Saturday (Sept. 15) at noon. A roster of top Republicans will be speaking about this years’ election and the issues that concern Fluvanna County residents.

The keynote speaker for that event will be Bill Bolling who has served as Virginia’s lieutenant governor for the past eight years. Bolling will also run for governor of Virginia in 2013.

Rittenhouse made an appeal for volunteers.

“We need volunteers,” said Rittenhouse. “We need decorations for the offices, we need volunteers to man shifts. Right now we are working with a skeleton crew. Just three hours of time a week is all we ask,” she said.

Shifts include, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Volunteers would help with voter registration, phone calls, meeting and greeting, giving out signs, and discussing current events with Fluvanna residents.

To volunteer, email fluvannarepublican@gmail.com or contact Debbie Rittenhouse at 434-286-2377, or stop by the headquarters to sign up.

On election day the Republicans also need people to hand out literature and talk to voters outside the polls. Inside the polls, volunteers are needed as election officials, including poll watchers, machine verifiers, and vote counters. Also, drivers are needed to help people who can’t drive get  to the polls on election day.

“We have slots for all jobs and shifts available. Even if you can only give a few hours, we’d love to have you,” said Rittenhouse.
