So to kick of the 2012 – 2013 performance season the school is also starting it own Roots Music Concert featuring the Charlottesville based Chickenhead Blues Band. CBB has been a staple of the central Virginia blues and R & B scene since 1999. The five piece band that includes Will Coles (drummer), Andy Rowland (alto saxophone), Vic Brown (bass), Aric van Brocklin (guitar), Skip Haga (Keys) has played many of the clubs and venues in Charlottesville including Friday’s After Five on the downtown mall. The group is most known for their interpretive arrangements of The Thrill is Gone and People Get Ready, along with their own originals songs. CBB will serve up a well blended mix of blues, funk, jazz, and R & B.
Also appearing at the inaugural event will be local country artist Nick Smith, and Beth Brookman and Gary Osteen. Both of these acts have been busy performing in Fluvanna including “Fluvanna’s Got Talent,” “Fluvanna Family Fun Days,” and at “The Dogwood Café.” And as they are all Fluco graduates it will be somewhat of a homecoming for them.
Concessions for the event will be provided by The Gypsy Gourmet Cake Lounge and Cuppa Joe.Tickets are $5 in advance and $8 at the door. Advanced tickets by be purchased at the Good Neighbor Pharmacy on Turkey Sag Drive near Lake Monticello, Cuppa Joe on Route 15 just south of Palmyra. Music and Arts on 29 North in Charlottesville will also be holding tickets for pre-sale. Music lovers may also secure advance tickets by calling FCHS at 434-589-3666. All proceeds from this event will benefit the FCHS Choral Department.
