Some 48 volunteers donated their time patrolling the Lake every weekend during the season and during special rowing and triathlon events in the spring. Together they provided some 435 hours out on the water serving other boaters with no duty day missing a patrol. Additional, though untallied numbers of hours were expended in planning, training and upkeep of the Lake’s primary patrol boat. A total of 42 percent of these volunteer hours were donated by Coast Guard Auxiliary members from local Flotillas 88 and 84 who form a nucleus on the Lake with their extra training.
Plans and goals are being made for next year and officers have been elected to get the ball rolling in time for the next boating season. The association has served Lake Monticello since being approved by the Lake board in 1988. It is the sponsor of the Lake’s Water Safety Patrol and has sponsored other boater activities, a sailing club and a water ski club in the past. – Contributed by Bill Flanders, President of Lake Monticello Water Activities Association
