Keller writes to parents in aftermath of Newtown tragedy

We met our children with open arms, embraced each other, and looked to each other for comfort. We also took the opportunity to revisit our crisis plan, to assure that our staff has a solid grasp on the logistics of a lock-down, and to assess our current practices for checking in and out of our buildings.

I trust our staff. They are capable and dedicated professionals who will continue to be there for our children and for each other. I trust them to listen, to be keenly aware of the needs of their students, and to seek assistance when a child’s needs are more than they can address alone. I trust them to continue to reach and teach every child, to advocate for what they need for their students, and to enable them to move toward their dreams.

During this holiday season, I ask that you take time to thank our teachers, bus drivers, cafeteria staff, custodians, secretaries, administrators, and all other staff who touch the lives of our children every day. We are here to serve our children. We are here to give them the foundation they need and we are here to keep them safe. I find great comfort in that and I hope that you will, too.

Sincerely,

Gena C. Keller, Superintendent
