Girl’s B-ball

Harris, who moved into second place all-time in steals, led a Fluco defense that was overwhelming. The Flucos held the Lions scoreless in the second quarter to take an insurmountable 24-6 lead at halftime. Coach Chad White noted after the game that “defense is our bread and butter.” A zone press and a 1-3-1 zone worked well in the first half. And, White, who uses imaginative defensive schemes, went to a box and one in the second half to protect his teams’ lead. Second in points for the Flucos was freshman Kate Stutz, who scored 11 and demonstrated impressive athleticism in rebounding and defending. Kiana Childress added nine, including two three pointers. The Flucos are now 11-10 with one regular season contest remaining. – Duncan Nixon
