The Flucos played a delay game in the first half, and fell behind early. After three quarters they trailed 32-13. However, an aggressive defense and some intense rebounding in the final quarter flustered the Mustangs, and the Flucos won the quarter 17-8 to close the gap to eight points in the final minute. Senior guard Ashleigh Harris had two three pointers and freshman forecourt player Kate Stutz converted six free throws in the final quarter. Coach White explained his delay tactics in the early going, saying “we played them straight up twice earlier, without good results, I wanted to keep us close enough to be in the game at the end.” The Flucos did get back in it in the fourth quarter. If a few open shots early in the game had gone down it might have been even closer. Despite being eliminated from the Jefferson District tournament by this loss, the girls’ season is not over. Coach White said that the girls’ have qualified for Region II tournament play and will be in action again on Tuesday (Feb. 19), time and place still to be determined. — Duncan Nixon
