At the meeting Tuesday (March 19), Louisa offered to pay for the $50 million project that would include a 22-mile pipeline that will run from the James River at Columbia to a water treatment plant in Louisa.
Louisa proposal requires that Fluvanna chip in money when it taps into the pipeline. Details are still vague. Louisa County also requested an additional vote on the James River Water Authority until Fluvanna County funds its share.
The original agreement was to split the cost of the pipeline evenly until Fluvanna supervisors killed the project in 2010. The project has been debated for over a decade.
“We are committed to the James River project,” said Fluvanna Board Chairman Shaun Kenney. “If Louisa County is willing to pay for the pipeline, then there is not much else we need to discuss.”
“Our budget will allow us to do the project and hopefully down the road both counties are going to end up with a great benefit as a result of it,” said Willie Harper, chair of the Louisa County Board of Supervisors.
