The Columbia district seat came up for grabs after Supervisor Shaun Kenney told the Fluvanna Review in March that he would not run for re-election. Kenney is currently the chairman of the board.
Sheridan, 48, will run as an Independent. He lives at Kent Store where he volunteers as a firefighter and on the rescue squad.
A long-time head baseball coach at the high school, he teaches history, health and physical education at Fluvanna Middle School.
“I think Fluvanna needs to come first,” Sheridan said. “I thought it was time to get off the bench and get in the game.” Sheridan is the first person to publicly declare he is running for the open seat. – Carlos Santos
