She was renowned for pie making, always humbly offering to show others how with a wave of the hand, “Oh, it’s easy.” She also made a mean hoagie. Barbara worked as a secretary and also volunteered at a hospital gift shop. She was a decades-long disciple of the New York Times crossword puzzle and with her Kindle in her lap a constant reader of contemporary fiction. Always an animal lover, she enjoyed her two Cocker Spaniels, Dusty and Rusty, from her days in Yardley, PA. A beauty in youth and maturity, she owned a graciousness that helped her make friends wherever she lived. Most recently she enjoyed the company of her friends at Lake Monticello, VA. More than anything else she created and maintained a loving home for her entire family. We will miss her dearly. In fact, we already do.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 59 years Robert Rinard VanDeventer (Lake Monticello, VA); sons Richard W. VanDeventer and his wife Eva Valiant of Brielle, NJ, Thomas R. VanDeventer and his wife Jody VanDeventer of Philadelphia, PA, William R. VanDeventer and his wife Paula VanDeventer of Underhill, VT; daughter Jill E. Rosenthal and her husband Richard Rosenthal of Flemington, NJ; sister Elinor Yeoman of Alpharetta, GA, brother Walter Weber and wife Pat of Atlanta, GA; and grandchildren Molly VanDeventer and Jakob VanDeventer of CA, Peter VanDeventer and his wife Katie of Aspen, CO, Gretchen VanDeventer at Cornell School of Veterinary Medicine, NY, Tristan VanDeventer at Georgetown Law School, Washington D.C., Sam Rosenthal and Noah Rosenthal of Flemington, NJ.
