Earl William “Bill” Dopp, 87, of Palmyra, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2014 at the University of Virginia Hospital.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Willie Dopp; five children, Lynn Flinchum and her companion, Charles Maxwell, Don Dopp and his wife, Regina, Elizabeth Dopp and her fiancé, Henry Cummings, Bryant Dopp and his wife, Cindy, and Leslie Lucas and her husband, Ronnie. He also leaves behind six grandchildren; Shannon Meadowcroft and her husband, Carrington, Brennan, Connor, and Christopher Dopp, and Brandon and Cayden Lucas; as well as a great grandson, Michael Meadowcroft.
Bill served his country in the Navy as a radio operator in the Pacific campaign during WWII, participating in five invasions. Afterward, he earned a degree in Physics from Tulane University and subsequently spent most of his career with the Navy Department as an Engineer, developing submarine based missile systems. He was an avid golfer and woodworker who enjoyed most of all spending time with his family.
Bill’s body was cremated and a private memorial ceremony was held on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at Thacker Brothers Lake Monticello Funeral Home. Family and friends may share memories and photos at www.thackerbrothers.com
