Ben Hudson wants the Democratic nomination in the race. He will be running against Lawrence Gaughan for the nomination, the television station based in Charlottesville reported.
Hudson is a retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel and a teacher in Charlottesville.
He says he wants to serve in Congress, because he believes the current representatives are letting the public down and that job creation will be one of his top priorities., the station reported.
Hudson ran for the 5th District seat as an Independent in 2012.
The 5th District stretches from Greene County in the North to Danville on the North Carolina border. It includes the county of Fluvanna.
