Curtis Carlyle Humphris, III

Curt was a kind, gentle, fun-loving, and loyal man with an inborn friendly and giving nature. He was a good listener even before illness challenged his speech. He was known and admired for his ever positive outlook and his natural ability to make us all laugh with his quick wit and humor. One of Curt’s most touching accomplishments was adopting Bubba, a loving 4-legged friend with a heart only for Curt. A huge LSU tiger fan, sports fanatic, and walking sports encyclopedia, Curt was an impressive athlete himself. He loved dancing of all kinds, from Disco to Swing to Ballroom. He ran numerous 10K races (New Orleans) and triathlons, enjoyed tennis in Lexington, and worked out regularly. For several years, Curt tended the 30-second clock for VMI home games, which was great fun for him. Although Curt worked with finances, money was unimportant to him personally. Curt valued family, friendships and personal relationships above all else. He was the catalyst for family reunions and the glue that helped keep us bonded, plus it was important to him to stay close with old and new friends around the country. Curt was always “there” for all of us, no matter what we needed- whether it was a listening ear, quiet advice, or a playful joke to lift one’s spirits. He had a big heart with room for many, and lived life “his way.” Curt will be forever loved and dearly missed.
