Doris Bode Meyer

In retirement, Herb and Doris lived at Lake Monticello and were founding members of the Grace & Glory Lutheran Church in Palmyra, Va. Doris was an active member of the church and participated in numerous church related committees. During her retirement Doris enjoyed time with family and friends, and enjoyed the challenge of finding unique antiques and gifts throughout her travels across the United States and abroad.
She leaves behind two children, Eric Meyer (Gabrielle) of Morristown, New Jersey, and Jean Forberg (Brian) of Huntington, New York; and three grandchildren RJ Chalfant Meyer, and Alexa and Courtney Forberg. Additionally, she leaves behind a brother-in-law John Meyer (Martha); two nieces Joyce Streithorst (Lee) and Carol Boynton (Matthew) and their children, TJ and Ashley Streithorst, and Christian and Olivia Boynton; and extended family and friends.
A celebration of life service was held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015 at Grace & Glory Lutheran Church, 683 Thomas Jefferson Parkway, Palmyra, Virginia 22963. A reception followed the service at the church. To honor Doris’s commitment of stewardship, the family requests that in lieu of flowers a donation be made in her name to the Grace & Glory Lutheran Church “Picnic Pavilion Fund.”
The family would like to thank the entire Palliative Care Unit at the University of Virginia Medical Center for their care, love and compassion during her last days.
Condolences may be sent to the family at www.hillandwood.com.
