Sharks kick off swim season

 

The youngest of the Sharks showed a promising start to the season with their finishes in the mixed 6 and under 100 meter freestyle relay. Coming in first was the team of Landon Kovarik, Ann Kraft, Lila Kate Robinson and Gavin McAdams. Following with a second-place finish were Ellie Phillips, Jack Pittman, Charlotte Gifford and Jacob Weimer. Swimmer Landon Kovarik finished the rest of the evening strong with second place finishes in the 25 meter freestyle and backstroke. Gavin McAdams secured first place with his swim in the 25 meter backstroke. Six-year-old Lila Kate Robinson swam to a first-place finish in her 25 meter freestyle in an impressive time of 25.28. Lila Kate also added team points with her finish against the older racers in the girls’ 8 and under 25 meter breaststroke.

The 8 and under boys’ added points with a few second-place finishes. Second place in the 100 meter freestyle relay went to the team of Harrison Williams, Zachary Luniewski, Aiden Thornton, and Aaron Fairbanks. Fairbanks and Luniewski also grabbed individual seconds in the 8 and under, 25 meter freestyle and breaststroke, respectively.

The 9 to 10-year-old boys’ team grabbed points with a third-place finish by Jackson Hopkins in the 100 meter individual medley, and a second in the 50 meter breaststroke.  A third went to Alexander Ley in the 50 meter freestyle.

The 9 to10-year-old girls’ performed well with a third-place finish by Julia Tomaras in the 100 meter individual medley and a second place finish in the 50 meter breaststroke. Rebekah Kraft swam to a first-place finish in the 50 meter freestyle, with a time of 43.03.

The 11 to12-year-olds added team points with a second-place finish by Aiden Kraft in the 100 meter individual medley and a third in the 50 meter freestyle. Coming in second in the 50 meter freestyle was Austin Fairbanks with a time of 36.59. Andrew Franco scored third in the 50 meter breaststroke. Vivian Scida took third in her 50 meter breaststroke.

The 13 to14-year-old boys’ team had a strong showing for the night with a first-place finish by Hunter Strickland in the 100meter individual medley with the time of 1:13.25. Nathaniel Smith’s time of 28:84 got him a first-place finish in the 50 meter freestyle. He also pulled in a second-place finish in the 50 meter breaststroke.

For the 13 to14-year-old girls, Jocelyn Notman shaved .8 seconds off her 50 meter freestyle best to come in third. Charlene Lasocki also earned team points with her third-place finish in the 50 meter breaststroke.

Caylyn McNaul and FeFe Nardone had a great night in the girls’ 15-18 group. McNaul scored two wins with her finishes in the 100 meter individual medley and 50meter freestyle. In the 100 meter individual medley Nardone was a mere .26 seconds behind McNaul, giving her the second-place finish. She finished third in the 50 meter freestyle.

In the end the Hollymead Hammerheads beat the Sharks 324-232. However, the Sharks showed that they are up to the new, stronger competition that will come with this season’s Division II ranking.
